Be With Me, Lord

Tom Booth

In the gospel for January 29, 2012, Jesus silences the demons and drives them out of a man in the synagogue. It seems interesting that a man with an unclean spirit would be in the synagogue, doesn't it? Why would a man with an unclean spirit enter into a holy place? It must be for the same reason we do.

An evangelist once told the story of a young man who came to him after he spoke. The young man said: "Sir. Do I have to quit smoking pot before I become a Christian?" The evangelist answered: "Let me ask you a question. Do you have get clean before you take a bath?"

The point is clear. We are each wounded and afflicted with sin; yet we come to the Lord for healing, forgiveness, and wholeness. Perhaps the greatest prayer we can utter is, "Help!" Jesus said that he didn't come for the righteous, but for the unrighteous. Each of us have areas of our life that we dislike and are unclean. That's why Psalm 91 is such a part of the Church's prayer. "Be with me, Lord, when I am in trouble. This prayer comes to life in Tom Booth's "Be With Me, Lord".
